ITINERARY
First day: CIVIASCO-OMEGNA
Uphill: 600 m
Downhill: 1000 m
Journey time: 3 hours uphill + 4 hours downhill
We will walk through the beech woods of Valsesia and the
chestnut woods of Cusio, through scenic pastures and broad
forests, which hide unexpected surprises like the secular ‘Fo
dl'Umbrela’ (the umbrella beech, in the local dialect), an
impressive plant of high natural value. At the end of the day,
we’ll reach the shores of the lake and the town of Omegna,
Gianni Rodari’s hometown.
Second day: OMEGNA-MIASINO
Uphill: 200 m
Journey time: 5 hours
Along the eastern shore of Orta Lake, we will enjoy the
panoramic views of the Cusio basin, noticing, among cobblestone
villages and noble buildings, traces of the abandoned pastures,
colonized by chestnut woods.
Third day: MIASINO-AROLA
Uphill: 200 m
Downhill: negligible
Journey time: 4.30 hours
We will immerse ourselves in the Agogna Valley, the natural
border between the plains and the Alps; after the moraine ridge
of Gozzano, we will experience a pleasant lakeside walk, up to
the small village of Pella. From here the trail starts to climb
up to lead us back to Valsesia through an easy trail to Arola.
Fourth day: AROLA-VALSESIA
Uphill: 300 m
Downhill: 200 m
Journey time: 2 hours uphill + 1.30 downhill
Going back to Valsesia (named the greenest valley in Italy), we’ll
arrive at the mountain pass where a superb view of Monte Rosa
and other peaks above 4000 m will welcome us.
Finally, we’ll come to the end of our trek: Civiasco. This
village is located on a lush hillside, between ancient and
elegant buildings of fine architectural taste.

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT: good sturdy walking shoes are necessary;
they should be already in use (we recommend not to use new shoes,
that could hurt!). Clothing should be comfortable, warm or cool
depending on the temperature: we advise dressing in layers
(underwear T-shirt, t-shirts, longsleeved shirt, fleece) with
technical material, which dries quickly, so as to minimize the
spare parts. Essential a good backpack with a capacity of 40
litres (note that the larger, the easier it is to fill it with
useless things), waterproof jacket, swimsuit, cream and
sunglasses, a water bottle, emergency food (some energy bars)
and something to eat for lunch on the first day. Also do not
forget the need for personal hygiene, wet wipes and a towel.
Telescopic trekking poles are recommended.
